Dennis Clare Vandecar

Dennis Clare Vandecar, age 78, of Lake Odessa, passed away on July 20, 2020. Dennis was born in Ionia County to Clarence and Gertrude Vandecar. Dennis graduated from high school at Woodland school in 1959. He worked at E. W. Bliss in Hastings and for Keeler Die cast in Lake Odessa and Grand Rapids for over 26 years. While working at Keeler he met his wife Regenia. They married in 1962 and raised two wonderful and mischievous sons, Kevin and Rick. Dennis and Regenia are blessed with four precious grandchildren, Evan, Brandi, Zachary, and Aaron. Dennis was an avid DIY and enjoyed building his environment around him. He also enjoyed working on cars and motorcycles, and often helped his boys with theirs when younger. Later in life he gained an appreciation for building his own custom PC computers and was often found playing his PC games. He enjoyed 50s and 60s music including California Surf music. He was also a big fan of Johnny Cash. He always had an awesome stereo system, and this is what instilled his children’s love of music. He would often sample their music, not always like it, but rarely complained about it. He also loved getting together with family. While raising his children, his whole family would gather at his mother’s nearly every Sunday for meals and stories. A Vandecar family picnic was tradition every Memorial Day. Dennis was preceded in death by Clarence and Gertrude Vandecar. Surviving relatives include wife, Regenia; sons, Kevin (Christal) and Rick (Kelley); sister, Delores (Elmer) Winey and brother, Gary (Susan) Vandecar; grandchildren, Evan, Brandi, Zachary, and Aaron; great-grandchildren, Jordan and Cain. Memorial contributions can be made to Mel Trotter ministries of Grand Rapids.
