David Allen Downing


David Allen Downing, age 61 of Howell, passed away on Friday, July 17, 2020 following a massive heart attack. David was born in Hastings, to Oliver “Babe” and Clarabelle Reed Downing. He graduated from Maple Valley High School and attended Lansing Community College. He started his IT career at Michigan National Bank in Battle Creek and finished with being a data architect for CapGemini. His longest tenure was for Farm Bureau Insurance in Lansing. David also started his own consulting company which led him to projects in Mexico City, London, Australia, Singapore, Japan, and Germany. He married Lois McVay from Lake Odessa in 1980. They lived the first years in Grand Ledge and then moved to Howell. David loved sports, especially the Lions and MSU. He played golf when he could. He walked, rode his bicycle, and loved to travel. David is survived by his wife, Lois; son, Trevor (Carol) Downing; daughter, Paula (Darren Copeland) and the light of his life, his grandchildren, Dylan and Kendall Copeland and Avery Downing. Also his mother, Clarabelle Downing; sister, Vickie (Gordie) Reid; sister, Karen McCrimmon, and sister, Sandy Downing; sister-in -law, JoAnne Emery; sister-in-law, Cathy (Bob) Roush; brother-in-law, Wesley (Gail) McVay. Also many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and special friends. He was predeceased by his father “Babe”; brother-in-law, Wesley Emery, and parents-in-law, Howard and Marion McVay. Although funeral services are being conducted privately, friends were invited to join the family for a graveside service on Friday, July 24, 2020 at Lakeview Cemetery in Nashville, followed by a time of fellowship immediately afterwards at the Daniels Funeral Home.
