It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother, Patricia Ann Kennedy on July 5, 2020.
Pat was born at home in Rutland Township on March 11, 1931. It was snowing so bad the afternoon she was born, that the doctor had to abandon his car and walk to the house to assist in her delivery. Pat was the last of three children born to Clyde and Mina (Gates) Warren.
Pat attended a one room country school until high school when the family moved into the town of Hastings. During high school she started her work career as an intern at Hastings Manufacturing Company. In 1949 she graduated from Hastings High School.
Pat married the love of her life, Andrew D. Kennedy Jr. on June 25, 1949. They were married 66 years when he passed in 2015.
After having two children, Pat returned to the work force at White Products in Middleville. She worked there for several years before working at the Credit Bureau in Hastings for a short period of time. Then she went to work at the Barry County Court House where she served as Deputy Barry County Treasurer.
Then her entrepreneurial spirit headed her in a different direction. Pat started a fabric store in Hastings called House of Fabrics. That business eventually grew into three establishments located in Hastings, Charlotte and Indiana known as Fabrics by Pat. Her Hastings store specialized in wedding attire for brides and their wedding party.
Pat was a very talented and gifted person with an eye for detail. She was able to work with her clients to design their vision of the perfect wedding gown. Pat and her skilled seamstresses created wedding dresses for many of the brides in the area. She also hosted an annual fashion show at Central Auditorium in Hastings to highlight the talents of her customers. More than a hundred models participated in those shows to compete in a sewing contest or to just model the garments they had made.
After a brief attempt to retire, Pat finished her work career at Hastings Manufacturing Company. At the time of her retirement she was a supervisor there.
Pat shared lots of stories about her life. Among them were growing up on the farm with no running water, living through the Depression and barrel racing her favorite horse. She liked to entertain and loved to square dance. Pat also enjoyed gardening, sewing, decorating and painting. But most of all she loved and enjoyed her family. We have learned a lot from her in our lifetimes. She will be greatly missed and always in our hearts.
Pat is survived by her children, Andrew D. (Debbie) Kennedy III and Jill (Roy) Dukes; grandchildren, Andrew D. Kennedy IV, Amanda (Josh) Malik, Debbie (Earl) Thompson, and Dianne (Tim) Slocum; 12 great-grandchildren; six great great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Helen Myers and Lucille (John) Mater; brother in-law, Alan Kennedy; as well as several nieces, nephews and their families.
She was preceeded in death by her parents, Clyde and Mina (Gates) Warren; her husband, Andrew D. Kennedy Jr.; brother, Phillip Warren; sister, Virginia Thornton; sisters-in-law, Beverly Kennedy and Kay Warren; brothers-in-law, Michael Kennedy, Paul Myers and Russell Thornton Sr.
