Duane William Shriber


Duane William Shriber, age 84, of Hastings, passed away peacefully at home on October 30, 2020. Duane was born on January 3, 1936 in Hastings in the car on railroad tracks. That was the start of him liking trains. Duane is the son of William and Susie (Gurd) Shriber. He graduated from Hastings High School in 1954, running track all four years, winning several awards. Duane served in the US Army from 1954-1958. He married Janet Ann Hubbell on June 20, 1959, together they celebrated 59 years until her passing on December 17, 2018. Duane worked at EW Bliss and Bradford White, retiring after 34 years. Duane loved and worshipped the Lord. He was a member of Voice of Revival Church, serving as Board of Director for 20 years. Duane enjoyed collecting trains, going to train shows, fishing, traveling, watching movies, and game night at home with family. Duane is survived by sons, Michael (Kelly) Shriber and Brian Shriber; daughter, Debra Shriber and her fiancé, Shawn Root; grandchildren, Michaela (Chad) Henry, Levi (Danielle) Shriber and Jaden Parker; great-grandchildren, Paisley, Cole, Sophie, Chloe, and Natalie, all of Hastings; sister, Ethelyn Hilliker; brother-in-law, Ken (Carolyn) Hubbell; sister-in-law, Carolyn Timm and many special nieces, nephews and cousins, and special friend of 45 years, Ken McCabe of Hastings. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Janet; his parents, William and Susie, mother and father-in-law, Lovence and Jessie Hubbell; brother-in-law, Ruehl Hilliker and Texas Timm. His Cats were like his kids, who were close to his side Oreo, Ninja, Bear and Grayson. Duane was a quiet and humble person who will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. He will always be in our hearts. We know you are no longer suffering. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to Noon on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2020 at the Girrbach Funeral Home in Hastings. Funeral Services will follow beginning at Noon, James McKelvey, officiating. Interment will take place at Rutland Township Cemetery with Military honors provided by Post 45 American Legion of Hastings Memorial contributions can be made to Elara Caring Hospice, 630 Kenmoor Avenue; Grand Rapids, MI 49546.
