Dorene Dean, age 84, of Battle Creek formerly of Hastings, passed away Monday, Sept. 7, 2020 at Brookdale of Battle Creek.
Dorene was born in Plainwell, on August 12, 1936, the daughter of the late Robert J. and Matilda K. (Grosjean) Cutcher.
She was raised on her family farm on Mason Road and attended local schools graduating from W.K. Kellogg High School.
Dorene spent the majority of her working career as a Machine Operator at Hastings Manufacturing where she worked faithfully for over 30 years. After retiring, Dorene needed to keep busy, so she began working at J-ad graphics delivering newspapers all over West Michigan until retiring in 2015. She also ran the local Blood Drive and American Red Cross for many years.
She was the widow of Mr. Robert Dean. The couple began their lives together on the family farm where Dorene was born, but later moved into Nashville where they raised their family together. Robert and Dorene, loved spending summer months together with the family at their cottage on Thornapple Lake. In 1990 she and Robert moved to the lake full time where they enjoyed watching the birds and wildlife. During the spring months Dorene and Robert enjoyed fishing and being together.
One of Dorene’s favorite pass times was reading; especially the newspaper, so much so, that she would have rather read the paper, than watch television. In her spare time she enjoyed working in her garden and canning the vegetables she grew for her family to enjoy throughout the years. This family tradition is something gladly passed onto her daughters and daughter in-law.
Dorene is survived by her daughter, Marilyn (Glenn) Wagner, son, William “Bill” (Nora) Dean, brother, James Cutcher, six grandchildren 13 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Robert, her daughter Susan Baker. and her great grandson Robbie Wagner
