Alice Lorraine VanderSchuur, age 95, of Wayland, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2020.
Alice was born in Jackson, on February 10, 1925, the daughter of Harvey and Gladys (Smith) VanWestrienen. Alice was a God-fearing person and longtime member of Leighton Church, where she taught Sunday school. She worked in food service for Thornapple-Kellogg Schools and also as a seamstress for Kessler.
She was a wonderful baker and was famous for her raised donut recipe.
Alice enjoyed spending most of her time working on the dairy farm with her husband. She was proud to be a mother to her eight children but was always welcoming to her many “adoptive children”.
Alice had an outgoing personality and a warm heart that will be missed by many.
She leaves behind her children, Sharon Doolittle, James (Diane) VanderSchuur, John VanderSchuur, RuthAnn (Jerry) Gore, Tena VanderSchuur, Susan (Tom) Kingsley, Robert VanderSchuur, and Brenda (Mark) Vandefifer; 24 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; sisters, Gertrude, Maxine, Wilma Jean, Pat; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin; siblings, Margaret, Esther, Marcella, Jack and Ken.
Alice’s family received friends on Thursday, Sept. 3, 2020 at Beeler-Gores Funeral Home, Middleville. Private family services were conducted on Friday, Sept. 4, 2020. Burial took place in Hooker Cemetery.
